Staging of "The Government Inspector"

The Play, "The Government Inspector" was staged by students in Tanjong Lobang School in 1967 and was very well received. To many it was like real theatre because it was so well done. However there are not many photos I can share with you except the following three.

Samuel Daring played the role of Supini. And actually those not in the know did not recognise the marvellous ACTRESS.  It was a hilarious scene.

Mahmud Yussop was the Government Inspector. When he appeared in the last scene, the whole audience was enthralled.

Our Principal Mr. Robert Nicholl chose the play,directed and produced this outstanding play which led to a lot of discussion and created great memories. Many students of the school's Drama Club, were selected to be in the play and that encouraged them to be interested in the English Language.

I must say that by the time students completed our studies in Tanjong Lobang Collage, MOST of us were able to speak English well. Only those who did not inter mingle with other racial groups remained in their little shells and spoke their own dialect.

The play showcased local politics and was quite revealing about bureaucracies. Very well adpated and enacted.

It will definitely remain in our minds for as long as we live. Thank you Mr. Nichol.
